We have an exciting opening for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our out of hours team working from our Sturminster Newton branch.
Friars Moor is an independent practice that was established over 60 years ago and is located in the beautiful Blackmore Vale in North Dorset. We offer services into Wiltshire and Somerset.
Friars Moor Vets have a team of 11 vets, 11 nurses, 2 student Nurses, 1 ANA, 2 Kennel assistance and support staff providing excellent care across all three of our branches.

This is a permanent position based on a three-week rolling rota. The candidate will not be expected to stay on the premises at all times but must remain within a 20-minute radius of the practice during their time on call. We have accommodation available just a short 2-minute walk from the practice if necessary.
Weeknight shifts will be 6pm – 8am coming in to do morning rounds before the 8am nurse starts and then to do a handover to the day kennel nurse.
Weekends on call are from 12pm Saturday to 8am Monday coming in to do morning rounds and handing over to the day kennel nurse.
You will be required to work bank holidays according to your rota. We will also require for you to cover holidays, which will be paid as overtime.
The job role includes:
- Taking the out of hours phones and triaging the calls
- Coming into the practice to check in-patients & administer medications if required
- Working alongside the veterinary surgeon to see patients out of hours
- Maintaining cleanliness within the clinical areas & theatre after use
- Some admin work such as phone calls to clients and dispensing repeat medications
- Monitoring anaesthetics
- Able to work as sole nurse
- Cleaning and packaging surgical instruments used
- Keeping up with house keeping during the week nights while at the practice
- Morning rounds and handovers to day staff
