Drayton Animal Health is a contract research organisation located close to Stratford-on-Avon. Purpose of Job
To provide a high level of husbandry to farm animals (cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry and horses) on studies, and collect samples and data. The studies are conducted to assist clients in developing farm animal health and feed additive products. Livestock are housed in high quality, purpose-built accommodation, which also provides a good working environment for staff.

There are opportunities within the job role for further development of skills and to acquire additional qualifications e.g. certificate of competence in the transport for poultry, Home Office Personal Licence and telescopic handler training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a high level of husbandry and welfare to farm animal species.
  • Be Lead Technician on projects with a requirement to be efficient and organised.
  • Assist scientific and veterinary staff with sampling and observation of animals.
  • Maintain meticulous records of health, behaviour, feeding and veterinary treatments.
  • Working to GLP and GCPv compliance regulations.
  • Adhere to strict biosecurity procedures when moving between groups of animals.
  • Maintain livestock accommodation in a scrupulously clean condition.
  • Other duties as requested, e.g. general maintenance.

Performance Capabilities

  • Carry out feeding, veterinary treatments, sampling and observation of farm animals to meet the requirements of each study and animal welfare.
  • Setting up, cleaning out, disinfection and organising of animal penning and housing for studies.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records through excellent attention to detail to meet the requirements of each study.
  • Adhere to the detailed instructions in study protocols, standard operating procedures and various regulations e.g. Good Clinical Practice (veterinary), Good Laboratory Practice, Home Office, Health and Safety Executive and Environment Agency.
  • Carry out activities flexibly and reliably working as part of a team, supporting others and taking responsibility for the success of the team and the projects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with study leads and other team members.

Job Requirements
Essential

  • Physically capable of carrying out manual labour.
  • Meticulous in approach to following procedures and instructions
  • Accurate when keeping detailed written records.
  • Flexible and adaptable. Willing and able to work off site, at weekends and unsociable hours if required. Work on an overtime rota up to every other weekend as required.
  • Driving licence – due to rural location and occasion off-site work.

Desirable

  • Able to operate farm machinery, i.e. tractors, trailers, telescopic handlers, etc. in a safe manner.
  • Familiar with biosecurity procedures.
  • Familiar with husbandry of farm animals including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and horses.
  • Home Office Personal Licence holder or experience of working on Home Office regulated studies.
  • Experience of working to Good Clinical Practice (veterinary) and Good Laboratory Practice.
  • Animal or science related higher education or degree or equivalent experience.

Salary: £19,467.00-£21,629.00 per year
