Job description
We are looking for an experienced RCVS registered Student Veterinary Nurse or newly qualified RVN to join our excellent nursing team. This is a full-time position, working a rota which includes a mixture of OOH's, day/night and weekend shifts on a 6 week rotation.
As an approved training practice for veterinary nurses we have a number of experienced RVN Clinical Coaches who enjoy sharing their wealth of knowledge.
Mentoring, guidance and reassurance combined with a comprehensive induction phase, helps to provide all new recruits and newly graduated veterinary professionals with the necessary tools needed to apply their theory and gain confidence in their own ability, all with a good helping of clinical freedom – from customer service and client interaction to ECC, medicine, diagnostics and surgery, we feel a great induction is the key to great future success in the veterinary world!
Progression within your field is encouraged and nurtured here too.
We find our on-call team rota's provide a good balance between time in the building, for case continuity and time off. This team is fully supported by our senior vets and Clinical Directors who provide ‘back-up’ OOH’s support by phone and in person, if required - Please note: Vets Now currently provide our OOHs cover on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, which means our hospital team get to focus on our hospitalised patients without any additional calls coming in. We provide our own 24hr OOHs care Mon-Thur.
The on-call veterinary nurses stay on-site for the duration of their shift, with use of our on-site self-contained accommodation. This rota would suit an experienced student nurse or recently graduated RVN, looking to gain experience and grow in confidence in a broad range of disciplines with the reassurance they have the experienced support on-hand when they need it, during the day and OOH’s.
All duties are carried out at our main hospital and not at the branches.
We have been a Veterinary Nurse Training Practice since the very beginning! Our current student nurse training provider is the excellent Dick White Academy, in Cambridgeshire. Students work full time with us and are released to attend college 1 day per week.
We have a large experienced team of nurses including Prep-room Assistants, Student Veterinary Nurses and RVN’s. Our Senior nursing team hold a variety of certificates from Animal Behaviour to Nursing of Exotics and Canine Hydrotherapy.
All nurses get to experience all aspects of nursing including general anaesthesia, diagnostics, ECC, hospital and day patient care, exotics nursing/husbandry, lab work, pharmacy, nurse clinics.
Consistency of care is really important to us and the rota system we have in place regularly enables the clinical team to follow through care from admit to discharge.
But it’s not all about the work, is it? We believe it’s just as important to feel part of the team outside of work too. Our social committee, annual rounders match, Christmas parties and baking extravaganza’s help to do just that and it’s entirely your choice as to how much or how little you’d like to get involved.
Employee benefits:
- 28 days annual leave including Bank Holidays (pro rata), company pension, (VDS cover and RCVS annual retention fees).
- After successful completion of the 6 month probationary period – monthly contribution towards pet insurance & gym membership, annual allowance towards veterinary care, generous annual CPD allowance, 1 additional days holiday for every 2 full years of employment (up to a maximum of 5 days/33 days per annum).
