JOB DESCRIPTION:
hiCOlab, the design and innovation team at the University of Vermont Health Network, seeks an entry-level Healthcare Experience Designer to help us envision and execute the future of healthcare strategy and services in our Network, working alongside our partner hospitals and healthcare organizations in northern New York and central Vermont. We are looking for a fearless, flexible, and mission-driven collaborator who is comfortable supporting diverse administrative and clinical teams through a design-led process to create an organization that meets the needs of our patients and families, and our employees.
The Healthcare Experience Designer provides design facilitation and support to various stakeholders across the UVM Health Network to innovate the delivery of healthcare services throughout the network. They will use the methodology of human-centered design and other complementary innovation methods to improve healthcare processes, services, and experiences for everyone in the healthcare system. Working under the mentorship of senior hiCOlab team members, the Healthcare Experience Designer performs a range of design activities including all phases of the design process: research and discovery to identify unmet patient, employee, and organizational needs; ideation and co-design of services, processes, and strategies; and iterative prototyping and evaluation of solutions. As an entry-level position, this is an opportunity to grow and mature in the complex field of design for healthcare experiences, services, and systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver innovative solutions to complex healthcare problems.
- Conduct end-user/stakeholder research and analysis to generate insights that inform design decisions.
- Generate and design solution concepts and prototypes for rapid testing and iteration.
- Assist in the design and facilitation of design workshops, design sprints, and other co-creative sessions.
- Create and maintain documentation of design process, deliverables, and outcomes.
- Communicate to organizational partners about the process, outcomes, and value of human-centered design in verbal, written, and visual formats.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Solid knowledge of human-centered design and design thinking process and methodologies as applied to real-world problems.
- Experience in facilitating co-creative workshops and other collaborative sessions.
- Excellent communication skills in verbal, written, and visual formats.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
- A portfolio or other examples of experience or service design work that outlines your design process, deliverables, and impact.
- Bachelor’s Degree in design and/or relevant disciplines.
- Experience working in healthcare is desirable, but not required.
