Job description
Company Description
Nurun is looking for an intermediate level UI Designer to join our team; supporting the design of meaningful and intuitive solutions via beautiful interfaces, smart visual storytelling, and scalable design systems to solve complex problems for our clients and their customers.
By nature, Nurun is fundamentally human; from our culture of collaboration, to how we work with our clients, to how we empathize with and serve the customers of our clients. It’s critical that our candidates operate on this level, supporting and enriching our human-centric culture.
Job Description
What is the role?
As a UI Designer, you’re a master storyteller and creative problem solver. You can drive design objectives and deliver innovative concepts while maintaining our client’s brand & design standards to ensure consistency. You enjoy crafting digital experiences and are passionate about the details. You will leverage your solid knowledge of design tools to create useful, engaging and intuitive interfaces that would surprise and delight users while helping them accomplish their goals. You will share your passion for UI design with a cross-functional team of strategists, UX designers, copywriters, product owners and developers who share a similar vision. Together, you’ll drive user-focused digital transformations that reward the users while moving the needle for our clients' business.
Your UI design solutions will intersect the next frontier of visual communication, interplaying with voice, gesture, and data-driven insights. You’ll be involved in the end-to-end design process, charged with designing the visual experience, establishing scalable design systems and creating delightful user interactions and web animations. Every project presents different demands and opportunities, so you'll need the flexibility to shift focus and support anything from site experiences, digital tools (SAAS/App based), and marketing websites.
What you’ll be doing at Nurun
- You’re a visionary: you are eager to bring your visual design skills and operate at scale, creating design systems that are modular, repeatable, informed by best practices, and within the client’s brand, personality, value’s and design standards
- You’re collaborative: you can work with senior UI designers, UX designers, product designers, copywriters, and developers to ensure your interfaces follow the established user journeys and enhance the overall user experience & solution
- You’re an artist with a technical flare: you clearly outline visual experiences from screen to screen and work with front-end development to define style guides and deliver designs that will look as good developed as they do designed
- You’re a design champion: you defend design choices using previous research & testing, heuristics, proven interaction patterns, and usability standards
- You're an artist through-and-through: you're fluent in relevant industry design, prototyping, and collaboration tools such as Figma, Sketch, XD, InVison, Zeplin, Miro, After Effects, Principle, Flinto, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
- You’re empathetic: you are a champion for inclusive and accessible design, and make sure your designs are usable by as many people as reasonably possible, without the need for specialized adaptations. This can include many different aspects of human diversity such as ability, language, culture, gender, and age
- You’re curious: you have developed a personal hack to actively search, consume, and curate new industry tools, technologies, techniques, and design practices
Qualifications
About you, our ideal candidate:
You’re multi-faceted: you can produce concept boards, responsive web layouts, design systems, illustrations & icons, data visualizations, and other design artifacts and have a portfolio to show this.
- Curious. Self-learner. And Problem-Solver
- Bachelor's degree in visual design & communications or equivalent professional experience
- 2+ years of relevant experience, ideally with digital agency experience
- Strong portfolio of 3-5 pieces demonstrating your craft in concept boards, UI design, web animation, and prototyping for screen-based experiences (eg. mobile, responsive web)
- Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to clearly communicate ideas, backed by research, solving for the problem space and its’ users

Work from home!
Do you love working from your couch and wearing pajama bottoms? Good news, Nurun embraces remote work from home! We also have the option to come into the newly (in progress) renovated office if you’re local. Because we miss each other often, and everyone needs a Zoom break from time to time.
Be engaged
We’d love you to participate in Nurun’s culture of sharing, learning and celebrating. We welcome new and exciting ideas, and we gather often to stay connected, share our wins and what’s developing in the agency. There are ample opportunities to share your passions and get recognized.
Have some fun!
Let’s drop the trite “work hard / play hard” thing. We tend to be a close bunch, and we have a fun time if that’s your thing. Team social events and celebrations are commonplace, random fun Nurun swag often shows up in your mailbox, and we’re known to get very competitive when it comes to hacking together gingerbread structures and carving pumpkins. We even enjoy inventing our own games! Okay, so the office does also have a rooftop deck, ping pong table, and foosball table. Is that ‘playing hard’?
Feel the support
We really do care about your work/life balance, your health and your well-being! Nurun has exceptional benefits and resources for mental health, and other important health care (recently increasing coverage for mental health services, fertility treatments, maternity leave, and introducing support for gender affirmation care).
Nurun and the Publicis Groupe have a great number of growing diversity, equity and inclusion programs. From frequent professional speakers and panels, to network-wide committees and exciting internal projects, there are many important ways to learn and contribute to these important initiatives.
Professionally, we actively develop a plan for your career goals and objectives that you drive; we want to help you level-up. There is support for training, conferences, industry outreach, and also an agency-wide peer mentorship program. We try hard to foster your professional growth and development, because we’re nothing without our people being their best selves!
Who we are
We are Nurun, at the crossroads of creativity and technology. We create digital experiences that help to grow brands and transform organizations. We are hybrids who organize our work around multi-disciplinary collaboration. Our vision: humans first, technology second. Always the same ingredients, but never the same recipe: we adapt ourselves as needed to ensure the excellence of our products.
We’re a large group of diverse professionals gathered in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Windsor, BC, and even Saskatchewan! Who are these professionals? We organize as teams of UX and UI designers, Developers, Client Partners, Project Managers, Strategists, and Business Designers (don’t worry, we’ll teach you what that is). Won’t you consider joining us?
