So what’s the role all about?
We are looking for a Utilities Officer to join our Service Charge team on a 12 month fixed term contract. You will be working collaboratively as part of the service charge team to achieve the common objectives. Deliver robust analysis and accuracy across service charge costs on utility costs, working closely with all stakeholders to maximise Service Charge recovery on utility costs.
This role offers blended working, we expect 2/3 days in the office, the rest are able to be done from home. This role can also be based at either our Bede Island office in Leicester, or Case House Office in Walton-On-Thames.

Some of the key tasks and responsibilities include:
- Work collaboratively with other areas of the business, including Housing Teams, Management Teams, Accounts Payable, Building Services and Procurement to deliver a customer focussed service to our tenants and leaseholders for utility costs
- Develop knowledge of our schemes to ensure utility charges are fair, affordable and represent value for money and accurately reflect the scheme composition
- Deliver accurate utility costs per scheme, block, and property
- Maximise the recovery of utility costs
- Ensure all service charges are effectively communicated to customers in a clear and transparent way
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- Monitor and track the monthly Actuals against Budgets on a scheme by scheme basis using the Service Charge Management System
- Review of monthly utility costs to track surplus / deficit adjustments throughout the year in preparation for the year end statements
- Prepare Budgets and Forecasts to reflect the latest live information for utility charges for management accounts and resident charges
- Production of year end statements for all residents with utility charges
- Use analytical tools, knowledge, and review of previous charges to extract, analyse and interpret data on utility costs to provide insights for business needs
- Streamline the P2P process to automate reporting
- Provide data to internal stakeholders to support decision making on cost savings / resident impacts
- Ensuring that all reporting is accompanied with detailed insight; pinpointing valid exceptions, large consumption variances and actions plans
- Work closely with the AP and management accounts team to ensure accurate posting of invoices and to make any changes required
- Develop a suite of reports from the service charge management systems to assist with year end and budgeting requirements
- Identify and implement improvement projects to ensure accurate reporting of Utilities from source to reporting
- Feed into and appraise procurement activities for future utility contracts
To be successful in this role, we’d be looking for the following…
- Experience of using a variety of both financial and non-financial software systems
- Working with large volumes of complex data
- Experience of a working to tight deadlines and delivering cyclical workloads
- Strong knowledge of word and excel
- Knowledge of rent and service charge legislation preferred but not essential
