Working with multi-disciplinary agile teams, third party development partners and stakeholders, you’ll be a pivotal part of our in-house user research capability. As well as developing and advocating appropriate research strategies to understand user needs for a service, continually testing and improving products and services, you’ll help to upskill other members of staff and play an active part in building a User Research community in Ofgem. It’s fast-paced, stimulating work with exposure and involvement in different areas, as part of an experienced and knowledgeable team.

Job description

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and outgoing and have a track record of applying user-centred design practices effectively in an agile development environment - GDS experience and awareness of standards would be desired. A personal insight into the diversity of service users, and the importance of services being usable and accessible for everyone, is a must. You’ll bring excellent knowledge and experience of user research tools and techniques, will understand the best approach to deploy in any given context. Innovative, methodical, and able to manage shifting priorities and conflicting views, you’ll also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and be comfortable with quickly developing evidence-based recommendations. Finally, we will look for the communication skills to present user research findings in a variety of formats and contexts, and in engaging and persuasive ways.

Person specification

  • Strong understanding and experience of the different tools and techniques of user research. Understands the strengths and limitations of different methods and when to use them correctly. (LEAD)
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and the ability to quickly develop recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative evidence.
  • Understands the diversity of users for services and the need to make services usable and accessible for everyone.
  • Understands and has experience of user centred design practices and knows how to embed them into an agile workflow to deliver timely findings.
  • Ability to align user research activities to inform decision making and action.
  • Ability to communicate user research findings in a wide variety of formats and contexts, and in engaging and persuasive ways.
