Applications are invited for two part-time posts of Cambridge University Constable. The principal function of the University Constabulary is to assist on Ceremonial occasions, Congregations and to support the Proctors in their role. Events within the role can vary from providing assistance to the Admission of Benefactors, supporting the Honorary Degree Ceremony and assisting with visits from the Royal Family and other VIPs.
You will be joining our team where you will work collaboratively with others within a welcoming and inclusive environment. Within this role, you will use your excellent communication skills to interact with a wide range of people during the events, including responding to queries and questions from members of the public. You will sometimes be working on your own or in small groups and will therefore be able to keep calm in challenging situations and work with minimal supervision. It would be an advantage if you have some general knowledge of the University and Colleges or have a security related background.
You will be required to work some unsocial hours, including occasional Fridays and Saturdays (twelve Saturdays per annum), Sundays and on rare occasions, you will attend events during the evenings and throughout the night. It is essential that you are available for the Swearing-in Ceremony each year (1 October), General Admission Graduations (4 days in June/July each year) and monthly Congregations as a minimum. You will also be attending other VIP and Ceremonial events and we will look to you to assist the Proctors in their disciplinary duties on a rota basis.
The contract for the posts run from 1 October - 30 September, with a starting date for this post of 28 April 2023.
