Job description
The Department wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor (Grade 9) or Associate Professor (Grade 10) in Small Animal Medicine, with effect from 1 June 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The field of Small Animal Medicine is a recognised strength of the Department of Veterinary Medicine in the University of Cambridge. The Department has a long history of clinical excellence in the field, including in the provision of post-graduate specialist training, as well as in research and publications in the broad area.
The purpose of the role is to provide academic leadership in a chosen field within small animal medicine; to conduct research and develop collaborations with colleagues across the Department and University; and to make a major contribution to further developing and sustaining the referral caseload and clinical teaching of the veterinary Hospital.
The individual appointed will achieve and sustain a clear national and international profile in research and in the clinical practices of small animal medicine. The Department already has outstanding research and clinical excellence in medicine, notably relating to endocrinology, gastroenterology and feline medicine. Many leading academic veterinary medicine specialists undertook their PhD and/or specialist training in the Department, and this post is an exciting opportunity to capitalise on, and enhance, this reputation. The Clinical Services' research efforts are supported by collaborations with a number of University Departments and Institutes.
The individual appointed is expected to achieve and sustain a clear national and international profile in research, clinical excellence and veterinary education and should hold a Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or hold a veterinary degree qualifying membership. A PhD and a further qualification in teaching is desirable.
