Undergraduate Intern - Recurating the Kew Cyperaceae Herbarium collections
This internship project will support the work of the Herbarium Curation Team and Accelerated Taxonomy Priority through physical and digital recuration of the Cyperaceae herbarium collections to a new linear sequence.
The curation intern will work alongside the Herbarium Curation Team and Accelerated Taxonomy Priority to help with a variety of curation activities and to gain some experience working with our staff in the herbarium. They will also gain some practical knowledge in plant identification and understand how this relates to the work in the herbarium, plus the chance to interact with specialists in plant taxonomy and conservation and build relationships for the future.

Training and experience offered during this internship:
- Specialised herbarium curation skills such as handling specimens, preparing specimens to be mounted and digitisation.
- Identification skills including gaining some understanding of taxonomy and certain plant groups.
Education and experience required (specific to this project):
- Undergraduate with at least two years’ university education or equivalent or recent graduate (within 2 years) in biosciences or related subjects.
- Ideally, some experience of working with biological collections (e.g., herbarium specimens).
- A demonstrable passion for plants and their classification, diversity and conservation.
- A working knowledge of descriptive plant terminology.
- Ideally experienced in using / managing a large scientific data set.

The salary will be £19,582 per annum (+725 book allowance).
