Your role in Legal@Chanel:
We are currently seeking an Intern to join Chanel UK’s Legal Team on a fixed term 9 month contract (with the possibility to extend). The role will be in the UK Intellectual Property Team.
The successful candidate will support the legal teams across all legal areas with a primary focus on IP Enforcement. Working closely with the Legal Teams and using the legal skills you have developed during your law degree this position will allow you to expand your legal knowledge as well develop your drafting and legal research skills in a dynamic in-house environment.
Leveraging your unique skills and experience will enable you to support primarily in the following areas of expertise:
UK Intellectual Property Team
- Administration, presentations and reports: you will assist the Team with compiling any ad hoc statistics, reports, analyses (using Excel, Word, Power BI) and also prepare PowerPoint presentations. You will also be responsible for general administration and data management.
- Grey market monitoring: you will be responsible for researching and monitoring websites selling genuine grey market Chanel fragrance and beauty products and making test purchases. Once received, you will log the test purchase on an internal platform and be responsible for sending this to Paris for tracing.
- Monitoring and enforcing: using key word searches, you will monitor websites and social media platforms for the sale of counterfeit and infringing goods and the mis-use of any Chanel trade marks. You shall research the individuals/companies related to those websites / profiles so that the team can follow up and take enforcement action.
- Evidence: you will collate and prepare evidence annexes for counterfeit, infringement and opposition cases.
- Use and reputation: you will save and tag recent advertising campaigns and shall review each Fashion Collection and tag all uses of Chanel trade marks.
- Legal research: you shall prepare summarised notes on recent trade mark and design cases and shall assist in preparing any submissions to IP related consultations and lobbying submissions.
- Basic formalities work :you shall assist the Team with domain name management (e.g checking availability/costs and instructing new registrations)
- Drafting: cease and desist letters, responses to requests for consent.

You will:
- Have a law degree or working towards completing a law degree
- Be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of, or at least an interest in, trade mark protection/anti-counterfeiting law and/or practice (e.g. studied a relevant IP module at undergraduate level; relevant essay prize winner; research or dissertation; previous work or other study experience).
- Ideally had work experience working in a legal environment either in private practice or in-house
- Strong IT skills with experience in presenting data and information efficiently and effectively in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
