Operating across the UK & Ireland (UKI) and supporting EY practices across the EMEIA region, our Commodities Markets team provides a ‘one-stop shop’ service for Commodity Trading organisations. We serve as practical and innovative trusted advisors to businesses that undertake commodity trading to address challenges in governance, risk management, processes and controls, financial reporting, and regulatory change. We cover all parts of the trade lifecycle including operating model design, technology and industry analysis.
The opportunity
We’re looking for solution-oriented team players to join our London-based Commodities Markets team and ensure clients benefit from our insights, creativity, and energy. This is an opportunity to combine industry knowledge, technical insights, commercial knowhow, and market sentiment to deliver solutions for our clients’ complex problems.
Commodities Markets (CM) is a specialisation within Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS), focused on businesses trading in gas, power, oil, metals, agriculture, carbon, shipping and logistics, and chemical and related products. Our clients include:
- Global trading houses specialising in trading commodities
- Trading divisions of large conglomerates, consumer goods and industrial companies buying and selling commodities or freight
- Financial trading, clearing, and brokerage companies
- Industry bodies and infrastructure providers in the sector
Your key responsibilities
This role will involve working with multi-disciplinary teams where you can apply leading methodologies to drive business performance. You will typically work alongside local leadership and clients to provide advisory services and deliver high quality projects in business transformation (including roadmap definitions), regulatory compliance, technology enablement, and control/risk governance.
Planning and gathering insights: Review documentation such as current processes, systems, information flows and controls, to understand the current state of the clients’ operations and compare these to industry best practice- Engagement: Manage the engagement team to successfully deliver the clients’ requirements, advising and consulting on all areas of the trade lifecycle
- Quality review: Ensure projects adhere to EY standards, set budgets, and agree timelines.
- Pipeline: Leverage FAAS and CM specialists worldwide to pursue new business opportunities
- Learning: Constantly enhancing your understanding of CM industry trends, sharing your knowledge to support junior colleagues
- Development: Performance management and coaching of junior colleagues throughout the performance year

To qualify for the role, you must have
- A Bachelor's or Master’s degree (preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Information Technology (IT), or related field), or equivalent industry experience
- Exposure to the physical commodities trading sector and understanding of how commodity markets operate

Relevant professional experience in one of the following:
- Front, middle or back-office role in a commodity trading house
- Operational role in either a bank, professional services firm (audit, consulting, technology, out-sourcing), or industry body
- Regulatory or Controls IT environment, with exposure to process and control redesign
- Data analytics, reporting, systems, or technology
- Project and people management experience
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Experience managing a diverse range of projects and stakeholder needs
- Exposure to various commodity transaction types (physical and financial) across multiple markets, including understanding of risk and/or hedging strategies
- Experience with commodity trading systems such as Commodity Trading Risk Management systems or risk management tools (e.g. OpenLink, Aspect, EOS, Allegro, Zema, CurveBuilder, Eikon, FIS, EOT, EKA, Topaz, etc.)
- Exposure to project development software in trading, solution design and deployment
- Demonstrated interest in commodities trading via education, work, or extra-curricular experience
- Produced documentation covering business requirements, processes, controls, and reports
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, establishing personal credibility with clients and colleagues
