Job description

Our UCA campus at Epsom has become the Centre of Excellence for our School of Fashion and Textiles. As part of these changes, we are developing our new and existing technical resources at Epsom campus. We are looking to grow our family of technicians and therefore seek a Technical Tutor in Fashion Textiles. This is an exciting new role which will contribute to supporting students in the garment construction and garment production for Fashion Textiles.

The successful applicant will have experience of garment construction, domestic and Industrial machinery experience and associated production processes.

As a Technical Tutor, you will induct students into the use of equipment and demonstrate techniques and processes associated with garment construction. You will use your knowledge and experience to plan and deliver inspiring lessons and introduce students to creative approaches that empower them to explore materiality and fabric manipulation.

You will be able to demonstrate hand and machine sewing techniques to mixed ability groups and have extensive knowledge of the materials used in the production of students work.

Working alongside colleagues you will induct students into the safe use of the area as well as any associated equipment and machines. You will contribute to the care and maintenance of equipment and be responsible for the health and safety in your area of competence.

You will work alongside our Digital Fabric Print Technician, so experience in dye sublimation processes is desirable.

You will also have excellent communication skills, be a good team worker and be able to demonstrate an aptitude for dealing tactfully with students and staff. The ability to work under pressure is essential.
