SALARY: Up to £25,937 per annum (please note that for part time roles the salary will be pro-rata’d)
JOB TYPE: Part time, permanent
HOURS: Either 1 x full time 37 per week OR 2x 0.6 part time roles 24 hours per week.

JOB PURPOSE:
At North Hertfordshire College, we put students at the heart of what we do. We are investing in making sure all of our 16-19 year old students access the personal and academic development they need to flourish and thrive, not just in their studies with us, but in their career and higher studies.
This is a great opportunity to help us do this, and with roles available across our different subject areas, we are developing a team who will work closely with colleagues in curriculum and student services to enhance even more the good work that we do.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- This is an exciting and varied role that will have responsibility for a range of areas. You will be connected to a particular set of curriculum areas and become part of that team, whilst also being part of the wider personal and academic development team across the college. You will have 24 hours of contact time with students, which will include some of the activities below:
Academic skills
- Provide 1-2-1 and small group academic tutoring to students in your curriculum areas. This might include providing targeted support to students who need intervention to support them achieving or to students who need stretching to help them achieve their higher grades. This will also include working with other staff to maximise participation in maths & English classes.
Keeping our students safe, healthy and well
- You will deliver core tutorial content related to keeping safe, healthy and well including Prevent, safeguarding and healthy relationships. You will work with your colleagues in the team to develop impactful sessions and work with students throughout the year to provide refreshers. To support you with this, you will receive in-depth training on these key topics, with a particular focus on mental health and safeguarding lead information.
Enrichment
- Working with colleagues across the college and the campus you work on, you will develop and deliver an exciting range of enrichment activity that helps students to develop confidence, prepare for their next steps and become responsible and active members of the community.
Accessing resources
- To support the academic and personal development of our students, they will access some tailored online learning throughout their course. You will work with the curriculum teams to identify the appropriate online learning for
- them, including maths & English, and support students to complete this.
Transition and progression
- You will be a champion for ensuring our students transition well into their college courses once they have applied to us, you will also champion positive progression for our students, working with other colleagues to help them achieve their aspirations.
- What might a week look like for a Personal and Academic Development Tutor?
- Your week will be varied and be different dependent on the time of the year. In a typical week you will find yourself:
- Delivering sessions that support students to keep themselves safe, healthy and well to our level 1 and level 2 students
- Working on a 1-2-1 basis or small group basis with students who need additional academic support
- Running enrichment activities on the campus
