Due to a busy workload & heavily committed for the rest of the year, we are looking to recruit Class 2 HGV drivers to join our team at The Shore Porters Society in Aberdeen.
The successful Removals Operative will have a full license to drive vehicles over 3.5t, a drivers CPC, and you will be required to be physically fit due to the need to load and unload goods. Having experience in the industry is certianly not a neccesity as training will be provided however experience is an advantage
The main purpose of the removals driver role is to ensure the safe and secure packing, handling, loading, transportation and unloading of customer furniture, effects, fine art and antiques.
Working on a range of activities, including domestic, commercial and overseas removals with travel away from home location required from time to time.
Removals Drivers must always strive to provide excellent customer service by maintaining a smart appearance, professional conduct and communicating clearly and politely with customers at all times.
1.0 MAIN DUTIES
- Arriving promptly for start of each working day, liaising with Transport Manager for planned work activities, paperwork and documentation.
- Ensure that thorough vehicle checks are carried out on a daily basis to ensure the safe use of vehicles and minimise wear and tear through proper vehicle maintenance.
- Completing daily vehicle check paperwork, noting any defects and passing such paperwork back to Transport Manager as soon as possible.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle interiors and exteriors to ensure good reputation and image for the Shore Porters Society whilst minimising deterioration of cosmetic appearance of vehicles.
- Ensure that driving licence is renewed on time and provide evidence of this to the company when requested.
- Work as part of a removals team with removals porter(s), taking responsibility for the work of the crew and progress of allocated work.
- Safely packing customer furniture and effects (including fragile items such as china, glass and pictures) prior to domestic and commercial removals, or storage.
- Safely packing and export wrapping customer furniture and effects to the standards required for overseas shipments.
- Dismantling upon collection and reassembling upon delivery larger items of furniture such as wardrobes, beds and bookcases.
- Take responsibility for the safe loading/unloading of removals vehicles and securing all furniture and effects to protect the load and avoid damage during transit.
- Load/unload shipping containers for overseas shipments at depot, or customer premises as required.
- Safely trans-ship customer furniture and effects from removal vehicles, into and out of Shore Porters Society containerised, or conventional storage facilities.
- Complete detailed inventory paperwork for all items being taken into Shore Porters Society containerised, or conventional storage facilities.
- Unwrap/unpack furniture and cartons as required and remove all debris from customer premises.
- If damage to customer effects occurs, handle customers with genuine care and report all such instances to the Transport Manager promptly.
- Ensure all items are correctly placed in customer premises prior to leaving site.
- Ensure customer is satisfied with the standards of work performed prior to leaving site.
- Ensure all paperwork and documentation is correctly completed and signed by customers.
2.0 QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED
- A full, clean driving licence at the relevant heavy goods vehicle category for the vehicle being driven is essential.
- Removals Drivers must hold a valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) Card.
- The role requires heavy lifting from time to time both on an individual basis and working as port of a team for heavier items.
- Removals Drivers must be medically capable of the following;
o Undertaking intense physical activity using back, leg and other body motions.
o Spending lengthy periods of the working day on foot and being active.
o Performing lifting and manoeuvring of furniture and heavy items into and out of customer premises. This includes the movement of heavy items up and down staircases and through narrow doorways and corridors.
o The movement of heavy items on and off removal vehicles using barrows, skateboards ramps and platforms is also required.
- European work may be undertaken from time to time; as such, Removals Drivers should hold a valid passport.
