HGV DRIVER (TRAMPING)
LOCATION: THRISLINGTON, WEST CORNFORTH, DURHAM
DIVISION: TRANSPORT
OVERALL OBJECTIVES:
The HGV driver will provide a first-class transport service by operating a heavy goods vehicle in a safe, responsible, and efficient manner to move goods / items from and to various locations.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operate commercial vehicles up to 44 tonnes
o There may be a requirement to load as well as unload, depending on the trailer being used
2. Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and safe for use
o At the start and end of each shift, carry out vehicle inspections and ensure that all defects, and malfunctions are correctly reported to the transport office.
o Maintain a clean and tidy cab and carry out an external wash down including the vehicle trailer as required.
o Adhere to the company process for tyre repairs and replacement.
3. Ensure safe, responsible, and efficient performance of duties
o Always demonstrate a proactive and positive approach to Health and Safety and comply with risk assessments and operational policies.
o Ensure all loads are safe and secure before commencing each journey.
o Always wear appropriate PPE, keeping it in a good and clean condition.
o Always apply economic driving techniques and maximise efficiencies by paying attention to the manufacturers operating guidance.
o Follow driving route plans unless diverted by the police, highways office, transport office or due to a road closure.
o Operate in accordance with the HGV driver’s information supplement.
o Ensure trailers and clean and maintained to a high standard to avoid contamination of products.
4. Represent the business in a professional manner when on external customer sites

· Ensure condition of the vehicle and trailer are fit for purpose and safe to operate

KEY CONTACTS:
The role fundamentally involves contact with the transport office team and external customers. It is essential to maintain a first-class professional relationship with all internal and external stakeholders.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Most of a typical working day will be spent in the cab of the vehicle driving between various locations. Flexibility will be required as the allocated tasks may change during the working hours.
There may be a requirement to spend up to 4 nights away from home for long haul deliveries.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
HGV DRIVER
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
ESSENTIAL:
- Full UK driving license
- HGV driving license (Class 1)
- Conversant with road transport and tachograph regulations
- Holder of a Driver Certificate in Professional Competence
