Truck Driver
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of and reporting to the Logistics Coordinator, this position is responsible for:
1. The safe and responsible operation of company owned/leased gasoline or diesel-powered trucks for the timely transportation and delivery of moulds, dies, and other materials/equipment to and from customer locations and/or sublet sources; and the picking up of raw materials, machinery, equipment, etc., from suppliers for company use.
2. The accurate completion of all necessary paperwork such as manifests, bills of lading, customs papers, etc., involved with the transportation, delivery, pick-up, of moulds, dies, materials, equipment,
3. The insuring that company owned/leased trucks assigned are maintained in a safe, clean, and completely operational condition at all times.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The position of Truck Driver is an hourly-rated position with a work week being comprised of a minimum of 44 hours per week. Due to the nature of the business, overtime work is often required involving after-business hours and weekends.
Minimum education level preferred is Grade 12 or equivalent.
Individual must hold and maintain a valid driver's license with D-Z driving endorsement, coupled with a minimum of 5 years driving experience with clear driving record. Must be capable of operating a Multi Axle Stake Truck with 2 drop axle, with a 50,000lb capacity .
Regional daily deliveries including cross border in the U.S.
Must: be extremely safety conscious; have good personality; ability to communicate verbally and in written form; reliable attendance record; good health; be able to operate overhead crane and hoist systems; be able to operate propane/electric lift truck; and be available on short notice.
JOB DUTIES
1. Operates company owned/leased gasoline or diesel-powered trucks for the timely transportation and delivery of moulds, dies, and other materials/equipment to and from customer locations and/or sublet sources.
2. Picks up materials, machinery, equipment, supplies, etc., as directed from company suppliers.
3. Completes all necessary paperwork such as manifests, bills of lading, customs papers, etc., involved with the transportation, delivery, pick-up, of moulds, dies, materials, supplies, equipment insuring accuracy of such at all times.
4. Insures that assigned company owned/leased trucks are maintained in a safe, clean, and completely operational condition at all times. This involves regular washing and interior cleaning of trucks and the removal of any refuse, etc., from the vehicle on a daily basis after use.
5. Checks all paperwork against loaded items to insure accuracy of part numbers, pieces, etc.
6. Abides by the rules and regulations as set out by provincial and state laws.
7. Clears shipments through customs and registers or cancels any outstanding paperwork as may be warranted.
8. Maintains a daily log of hours and miles traveled.
9. Performs regular routine inspections of items; such as, brakes, tires, lights, horns, etc.
10. Reports any malfunctions and ensures vehicles are filled with appropriate fuel.
11. Fills in daily time card of hours worked and jobs performed.
12. Loads and unloads trucks as necessary and secures cargo on trucks with ropes, chains, hooks, clamps, blocks, etc. as necessary.
13. Packs or assists in packing goods in special containers or may fabricate packing crates for shipment.
14. Operates propane or electric lift truck for the purposes of loading/unloading items from trucks or moving material about the shop as necessary.
15. Assists tool crib supervisor in tool crib as assigned and time permitting.
16. Performs miscellaneous duties such as sweeping, cleaning, organizing, etc. in periods of low trucking activity.
17. Complies with all government regulations pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety, W.H.M.I.S., etc.
18. Complies with all company rules, policies, procedures, and programs.
19. Any and all other duties as assigned.
