Duties

The selected candidate will perform installation, maintenance, monitoring, modification, and provide oversight functions of Network Enterprise Management Center (NEMC) systems and services such as: Weather Message Switching Center Replacement (WMSCR) and Regional ADAS Service Processor (RASP) and NADIN Message Replacement (NMR) systems. These systems collect, process, store and disseminate textual aviation weather products and Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) information between National Airspace Systems (NAS) systems, commercial airlines and additional commercial users 24 hours a day.

Serves as the key technical point of contact for assigned systems and projects. Collaborates with system users, planners, engineers, and contractor personnel for the acceptance of new or modified systems and provides assistance for resolving problems with the installation or improvements. Uses broad automated systems and networking responsibility to provide “end-to-end” services to Air Traffic customers. Initiates actions to install, maintain, and modify electronic equipment associated with facilities and services required for aviation navigation to assure a reliable, safe, and smooth flow of air traffic. It includes periodic maintenance (inspection and analysis of equipment with associated adjustments), modification, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of malfunctioning equipment. May be required to maintain entire facilities, including electronic equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level of FV-G/Level II, or equivalent of an FG/GS-11. Specialized experience is defined as experience in the FV-2101 occupation or in a related occupation, which equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. The specialized experience required should demonstrate extensive knowledge of and experience in the technology, system interrelationships, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation, and electronics systems.

Candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility that is appropriate to the position. Generally, experience at the next lower level of G/level II or equivalent, meets the minimum qualifications for this position as long as the experience supports the demonstrated abilities identified below:

  • Ability to perform multiple, complex assignments associated with the NAS with only limited supervision.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and perform work with a high degree of independence and ability to make technical decisions within his/her area of expertise.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive information technology (IT) skills and knowledge, through consistent practical application, analysis, diagnosis, repair, and certification of the most complex systems, services, subsystems and NAS equipment. Possess IT Certification or successfully completed industry training or equivalencies.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of complex automations systems and NAS components.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess the functional status of assigned NAS systems, subsystems, and facilities.
  • Demonstrates ability to resolve system problems as they arise and makes adjustments as necessary to deal with system outages and performance deterioration.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate on work actives with internal (FAA) and external entities to resolve complex technical or engineering issues.
  • Ability to analyze and understand the facility level integration of advanced automation systems with multiple legacy systems.
  • Ability to develop and recommend methods of enhancing efficiency of systems through modification and application of existing or emerging technology.
