Job description

Transport Executive - Rail

Great Rail Journeys is the UK’s leading provider of holidays by rail, offering escorted tours, river cruises and tailormade holidays to over 40 countries across the world. With five decades of experience, we are experts in showcasing the beauty and diversity of the destinations we travel to, taking people to places only rail can reach. We take over 50,000 customers on holiday each year and are fantastically proud of our high quality tours, that we know customers love. We care passionately about customers, understand the small touches and attention to detail that make a holiday special, alongside the knowledge and experience to navigate the world by rail. We employ just under 100 people, based in the City of York, and will shortly be moving to new flag-ship offices in the Hudson Quarter, directly opposite York railway station.

We now have an exciting opportunity in our Transport Team and are looking for a Transport Executive to join us.

The role

Your main responsibilities are confirming rail orders for our escorted tours, responding to availability and timetable issues, proactively managing travel disruption and responding to customer requests to alter their holiday. You will need to be accurate and have a keen eye for detail, enjoy liaising with various teams and stakeholders throughout the business and thrive when working to tight deadlines.

You will be responsible for your own range of suppliers from around the globe and no two days will be the same. One minute you could be issuing train tickets for a journey to see the Northern Lights in Norway and the next confirming a scenic route through the Rockies in Canada.

You will be empowered to manage your own workload, encouraged to be creative in solving problems and want to see things through to the end. As we are a small team you will need to be flexible and able to manage changing priorities.

It’s great if you’ve got travel experience but being organised and able manage multiple workstreams in a fast paced and constantly changing environment is what’ll make you tick.

What we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Strong organisational skills
  • Able to manage multiple workstreams and adapt to changing priorities
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced and constantly changing environment
  • Creative problem solver
  • Desire to see things through to the end
  • A customer focused mind set
  • Enjoy liaising with various teams across the business
  • Travel experience would be advantageous but isn’t essential
