For the Translation Team, the main body of work comes through the INTERPOL channel. (INTERPOL has 4 official languages – Arabic, English, French and Spanish). The small team is made up of officers with capability in at least French and Spanish. The aim of the team is to provide an accurate and timely translation service to operational teams. The subject matter is varied and covers the whole range of criminality from simple checks to reports on serious and complex cases. There is often involvement in cases which are of high media interest. A Degree in French and Spanish or equivalent professional qualification is essential (e.g. full membership of Chartered Institute of Linguists or Institute of Translating and Interpreting).

Person specification
The vast majority of the work is the translation of incoming documents from French and Spanish in to English. However, there are occasions when there is a requirement to translate outbound messages into French or Spanish in order to facilitate the progress of an enquiry. Due to the dynamic environment and the nature of the work, the urgent intervention of the translation team is frequently sought. This means that there is a need for a speedy response whilst still maintaining the highest degree of accuracy and attention to detail. There are also occasions when the use of language skills will be vital to assist with an outbound or inbound enquiry by making or receiving telephone calls to or from international partners.
Please note: The JICC operates from 07.00 until 18.00 and your daily hours of duty will be within that range depending on the requirements of the business.
Qualifications
- Degree in French and Spanish or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. full membership of Chartered Institute of Linguists or Institute of Translating and Interpreting)

Interviews will take place throughout June and July 2023 - locations to be confirmed. Please be advised that the type of interview (eg. virtual/face-to-face) may be subject to change and successful candidates will be notified of this prior to attending. Multi-Location
