Job description
Operation Hummingbird is seeking accredited Detective Constables to join what is a large scale multiple infant murder and attempted murder investigation of significant national prominence. The role will provide both professional and personal challenge and clear reward as you work on a sensitive and challenging investigation across the force and nation.
The successful officer will be seconded into the operation based at our new secure premises within Chester City Centre. The alignment to Operation Hummingbird is anticipated to be for a period of up to three years, dependent on the investigatory requirements. Once the Op concludes, officers will then be reposted to vacancies within force.
We are specifically looking for a PIP2 DC with significant experience and ideally some experience of investigating major or serious and complex crime. It is crucial that the candidate is highly professional and genuinely enthused by the opportunity presented.
The role will primarily be to undertake and lead on outside investigatory requirements working alongside other DC’s and Civilian Investigators on the team.
Experience of HOLMES, family liaison, investigative interviewing are desirable but not essential, but we would seek a willingness to undertake such development and training dependant on the needs of the investigation.

- Experience of the judicial systems (work within a police, solicitors or criminal courts environment).
- Ability to effectively sift and evaluate information assessing relevance and potential use within criminal proceedings.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent the Force in the public domain when dealing with victims, witnesses and suspects.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and manage time effectively to prioritise tasks.
