This role is with the Dole Fresh Vegetables (DFV) division. DFV will provide INTERNAL CANDIDATES priority and consideration of their success in existing and prior roles as valid experience.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Packaging Specialist Manager, this position is responsible for the development and job performance success of our Package Machine Operators (PMO’s) and Associated Leads in our Ready To Eat operation. This responsibility will be met through developing and managing a “Center of Excellence” that promotes appropriate training, mentoring, and development of PMO’s and PMO Leads across both shifts and across all packaging platforms Scales / Baggers / Tray Lines / Box machines / All printers). In collaboration with Manufacturing & Maintenance Leadership this position will also establish and administer success criteria for PMO’s and PMO Leads to advance to different levels of proficiency within the job. This includes improvements through lean manufacturing / Kaizen / 5S / Gemba as needed.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
- Develop and manage the ongoing effectiveness of a “Center of Excellence” to coordinate, deliver, and support comprehensive training that focuses on optimizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of mechanics, PMO’s, and PMO Leads, production leads, production supervisors.
- Ensure training, support materials, and operational procedures of mechanics, PMO’s, and PMO leads, production leads, production supervisors are up-to-date and effective.
- Develop and utilize on-the-job training and coaching to improve on-boarding, KPIs and/or performance issues of mechanics, PMOs and PMO Leads, production leads, and production supervisors.
- Monitor and analyze equipment downtime to maintain optimal efficiency by minimizing product overweight, film-waste, and mechanical and operator inefficiencies. Reduce product loss, improve plant efficiencies.
- Serve as the liaison between Production and Engineering for the implementation and use of the new downtime reporting system.
- Support Safe, Quality, Food policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal laws.
- Perform other duties as required to meet goals or as assigned.
Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
- 5+ years’ experience in technical packaging capacity, focused in the operations of Bowl Ready to Eat Packaging machinery.
- 1-3 years in a Supervisory Role is desired.
- Lean manufacturing experience
- Ability to act as a Subject Matter Expert.
- Proven and/or demonstrated success in staff development.
- Experienced in establishing operator and food company training programs.
- Must have computer skills using a wide variety of software programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and oral.
- Must have the ability to make decisions, appear for work on time, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand, and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.
- Ability to work and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed in a cold environment with an average temperature of 34 degrees F. Concentrated chlorine and concealed ammonia is present. Work surfaces and floors may be wet.
- Employees are required to wear approved shoes and protective equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted up to 1/3 of the workday, and 6 lbs. overhead as job demands. Constant standing on a concrete floor, reaching, bending, stooping, and repetitive hand movements may be required.
- Moving machinery, including conveyor and forklifts are in operation in the immediate area.
WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel as needed.
Required Experience
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma Required, Continuing education, certifications and experience that demonstrate keeping abreast of changing advanced manufacturing technology, training and instructional methodology.
