About the role:
Merrist Wood College have an exciting opportunity for a Vocational Trainer to join our Animal Management and Employability team based in Worplesdon, Surrey.
As an Animal Management Vocational Trainer, you will deliver quality teaching and learning predominantly across the Level 2 City and Guilds Animal Care and Level 3 Pearson Animal Management qualifications, with focus on planning and delivering Project Based Learning. You will work side-by-side with our Animal Management teaching staff and support in delivering purposeful, yet exciting practical and theory lessons.
Key aspects of the role will focus on animal husbandry, behavioural enrichment, student research projects and assisting the Keeping Team in maintaining and refurbishing enclosures within the animal collection. This role also includes the effective delivery and assessment of Pearson Level 3 Practical Animal Husbandry.

You will get to work within a state-of-the-art £4 million animal management centre that is home to a wide range of species, on a beautiful 400-acre campus.
Formal teaching/training in the role won't be needed until September 2023, however we are keen to bring a candidate on board from August onwards to ensure the post-holder is settled and feeling prepared prior to the new academic year.
What do you need to be a successful Vocational Trainer in Animal Management?
You will be enthusiastic and motivated and carry a minimum of level 4 qualification in an Animal Management subject or similar recognised qualification within the animal management field as well as experience of working in a Zoo Licensed Collection with a variety of animal species.
Whilst previous teaching or training experience and qualifications would be an beneficial, it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications and experience to deliver on our Animal Management courses and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational trainer, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with students at all levels to ensure you are maximising individual strengths to set them up for success, and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
