Job description

We have a commitment to complete every project on time and on budget, which is why the role of Trainee Wood Machinist is so important.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shadow time served Wood Machinists, learning all aspects of the role within our busy state-of-the-art manufacturing facility here in Basildon.

You will learn how to:

  • Machine joinery components to a tight tolerance in line with specifications detailed on production drawings, cutting lists and production documentation
  • Ensure all joinery components are maintained and machined to the required standard of quality
  • Report any construction or design issues to your supervisor as and when they occur
  • Identify any material or dimension issues and report these to your supervisor
  • Collate finished works prior to release for bench work or dispatch
  • Ensure adequate protection is in place throughout the manufacturing process (i.e. covering veneered items to eliminate any risk of UV damage)
  • Ensure correct selection of materials to maintain sustainable compliance, I.E FSC / PEFC

The successful candidate must have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Level 2 (or equivalent) in Wood occupations
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Self-motivation with the desire to learn
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good practical skills with an interest in the craft of woodwork
