Job Summary
SES is looking to recruit a trainee wiring and testing operative to work in the workshop and testing room of our manufacturing base in Colnbrook. The successful candidate will be responsible for learning wiring techniques and be able to follow instructions from the other wireman, senior wiremen and the workshop manager.
This role will be demanding, and the successful candidate should be eager to develop new skills as well as being a fast learner.
In-house, on the job, training will be provided to ensure that the successful candidate is able to complete their task safely and efficiently.
The successful candidate would need to have a willingness to learn new skills and be confident enough to speak up and ask if they do not understand how to do something.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. To learn the techniques involved in the wiring of mains power distribution boxes, racks and panels, with verbal instruction, but with regular supervision.
2. To learn to use the testing machine with supervision
3. To acquire fault-finding skills to aid with issues that might arise in the testing room and with repairs.
4. Cutting cable to required lengths, following directions provided.
5. Using hand tools on a daily basis to strip cables, do crimping, and preparing sockets
6. Aid in ensuring that each product meets the high standards that SES expects and gain an eye for detail in terms of quality control.
7. To follow all Health and Safety guidelines
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- Good understanding of written and verbal English
- Must have accuracy in their work
- A want/willingness to learn new things
- Excellent time keeping and punctuality
- Any experience of working in a team, and of working within a busy environment of any kind
- Need to have the ability to work without constant supervision, using own initiative, without getting distracted easily
- Good eye for detail
- The self-confidence to ask for help when needed
Desirable: ·
- GCSE's (A-C including English)
- Any working knowledge of electrics, or electrical principals
- Any understanding of AutoCAD drawings
- Willingness to work outside of contracted hours, for additional income
- Previous experience of working as a fitter, wireman or electricians mate
- Any experience of using hand or power tools.
The role is a full time position and will be hourly paid, the rate will be negotiable, depending on experience and keenness.
The hours will be Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 5pm, and Friday 7.45am to 4pm. These are the working hours of the company but there is the possibility to work longer hours as overtime is often available. In-house training will be provided in order to ensure that the successful candidate is able to complete their task safely and efficiently.
The ideal candidate will be presentable, have a good understanding of written and spoken English, be reliable and have good timekeeping.
