Our work
The work we do varies quite a lot in type and scope. Here are just three examples to give you an idea:
- Optimising website performance, back and frontend, for clients such as media and entertainment motion capture specialist, Vicon, with conversion rate optimisation testing that has increased audience engagement.
- Helping niche retailers grow their eCommerce, as with Jacksons Art Supplies, creating new eCommerce capability and implementing design transformation which has seen a significant up-tick in their business
- Delivering major projects, such as a large-scale migration project for Epson Europe, including 15,000 pages being moved to their new website
Your responsibilities
As the Trainee SysOps Engineer you will be a part of a dedicated hosting and support team that is responsible for deploying and maintaining infrastructure services for both Xigen and a number of our clients.
Some of the day to day duties of the Trainee SysOps Engineer will include:
- Working with LAMP and LEMP stacks
- Maintaining and provisioning servers
- Troubleshooting, navigating system logs to investigate issues
- Maintaining internal documentation
Your profile
Some of the soft skills it is essential you've got include:
- A passion for all things computing
- A drive to progress and develop your SysOps career
- A strong head for problem solving
We also need you to have personal or commercial experience:
- Working with Linux/Unix based operating systems
- Setting up servers/LAMP/LEMP stacks
- Working with WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)
It would also be great if you had:
- Virtualization experience (VMware etc.)
- Git knowledge
- Docker knowledge (Running/configuring docker/containers)
- Experience setting up and building docker stacks/containers
- AWS experience
- A basic understanding of PHP and PHP stacks
- Experience writing documentation in any form

- The money - We're offering a salary of between £17,000 - £20,000 for the right candidate.
