As part of our academy, we are seeking aspiring swimming teachers to work at Newcastle-under-Lyme Council – Jubilee 2.

How does the academy work:

The academy allows aspiring teachers to receive all their training for only £85, compared to the usual cost of over £1,000. It includes mentoring to support your development, and you’ll be matched with an employer.

Successful applicants will complete their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching)and Level 2 Teaching Swimmingqualifications and be supported through their training journey with Institute of Swimming Membershipwhich includes over £100 worth of free e-learning. To help them develop, trainees will spend some time volunteering and get support from a mentor to ensure they have the necessary experience for the role and are ready to hit the poolside well equipped to teach.

Teaching swimming is an active and rewarding role. Work hours are generally part-time and there are a variety of working hours and contracts available across weekdays and weekends. Lessons typically run between 4:00-7 pm Monday – Friday, 8:00 am -12:15 pm Saturday and 4:00-6:30 pm Sunday.

There may also be an opportunity to support pre-school lessons, adult lessons, rookie lifesaving and coaching.

Following the successful completion of training, swimming teachers will work at Jubilee2, 80 Brunswick St, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Newcastle ST5 1HG.

You don’t need any prior qualifications to apply as you will be supported through your training, although we are accepting applications from those who are halfway through their swimming teacher training or already have their level 1 or 2 qualifications.

Swimming Teachers are required to complete a lifesaving qualification (Pool Lifeguard or National Rescue Award) prior to the Level 2 swimming teacher training. This will be offered fully funded through the centre. Minimum swim requirements will apply;
– Swim 50m
– Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool (2metres)
– Climb out without help and without using steps or ladders

Swimming Teachers will be required to sign a training agreement with a commitment to work for Jubilee2 for a minimum of 2 years.

Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 8 per week

Salary: £10.00-£20.00 per hour

  • Weekend availability
