This role within MHST CAMHS aims to develop the roles of Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners who are completing training at university. Alongside this, you will be undertaking the IAPT supervisor training postgraduate, which focuses on developing your skills to supervise EMHP Trainees. You will also hold a reduced caseload as a CWP/EMHP. EMHP’s use evidence based low intensity interventions to treat mild-moderate mental health difficulties and challenging behaviour. The post holder will also support with the MHST’s whole school approach delivery in the west of Oxfordshire.

The post holder will supervise/mentor trainee EMHPs under the direction of the Deputy Team Managers, as well as contributing to the development of the low intensity service.

There is a significant case management and clinical skills supervision component to the post as a trainee. This role is an ideal opportunity for an experienced and qualified EMHP/CWP to progress within their career. The post will be instrumental in contributing towards developing the supervisory aspect of the service.

The post holder will assist the Deputy Team Managers in the organization and co-ordination of Low Intensity interventions as part of supporting the trainee EMHP’s through their university course. They will take responsibility for allocating resources to some Low Intensity Interventions.

  • Support the trainee EMHP’S to treat mild mental health difficulties and challenging behviours.
  • Hold a small caseload whilst supervising trainee EMHP’s with their own training caseload.
  • Engage in and complete academic work as per the supervisor qualification at the University of Reading.
  • Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the team’s referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary
  • Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high volume low – intensity psychological treatments.
  • Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
  • Support the trainees to adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
  • Attend multi-agency and multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment.
  • Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
  • Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols

Other responsbilities include:
  • Work closely with CAMHS teams ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down processes are in place to support the pathway approach to care.
  • Make accurate assessment of risk to self and others and agree an individual risk management plan. Identify any safeguarding concerns and agree a plan to address these in consultation with trust Safeguarding Leads.
  • Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process
TRAINING AND SUPERVISION
  • Attend and fulfill all the requirements of the IAPT approved supervision training
  • Offer Caseload Management and Clinical Skills supervision to qualified and trainee EMHPs in the service
  • Identify training needs across the Low Intensity team and assist in the development of routes for Continuing Professional Development CPD in co-ordination with the Clinical Supervisor
  • Contribute to EMHP training sessions where appropriate
  • Attend both Internal and External training events as identified through supervision and in Personal Development Reviews PDRs
  • Undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist Clinical Supervisors and team members in evidence-based CBT practice
  • Develop and maintain knowledge about, and links with, local statutory and voluntary services to which clients can be signposted.
PROFESSIONAL
  • Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times. - see belo
  • Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of treatment for common mental health problems
  • Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with MHST Team Leaders on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development
  • Attend regular Line Management, Clinical Skills and Case Management Supervision
  • Keep up to date all records in relation to Continuing Professional Development and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments
  • Ensure annual professional EMHP registration is maintained with either the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)
