Our Team
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Special Damages Assessor to work in our Sheffield office, to join the Special Damages Unit within our busy Personal Injury department.
The Special Damages Unit is a team of dedicated personnel who deal with the quantification of financial losses. The Special Damages Unit, a resource unique to Irwin Mitchell, has been developed in-house since 1990 and boasts nearly 20 members with a broad array of accountancy qualifications and work experience.
The Team produce schedules of loss in Excel, developed on the basis of in-house procedures accounting for the latest case law and statistics. They are continually updating procedures and schedule templates to ensure that any changes in case law and statistics are reflected in all the schedules produced. In addition to this, the team provide advice to case handlers and at conferences. They also deliver firm wide training to ensure full understanding of compensation sums, and to maximise recovery of damages for clients to enhance their quality of life.
This role would be best suited to someone with a keen interest in finance, accountancy or with a high aptitude towards maths and problem solving, who is looking to establish a career within the legal sector. Full training will be provided.
Please note that this role is called a Trainee Quantum Analyst internally.
Your Role
The role involves the preparation of complex financial losses which involves liaising with case handlers.
The Special Damages Unit prepares schedules of past and future losses incorporating claims for income and pension loss, care and therapy packages, past and future dependency claims etc for all cases dealt with by the Irwin Mitchell Personal Injury departments nationally.
The successful candidate will receive excellent on the job training and support and will have a structured career development plan.
The role is highly analytical and therefore an interest in working with figures is essential. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual who takes a logical and methodical approach to their work.
The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate strong IT ability and confidence in using a range of computer packages, including the full suite of Microsoft Office applications. In particular the candidate should be able to demonstrate excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
Candidates should possess the necessary interpersonal skills to succeed at this job and in particular, adopt a helpful and friendly approach when dealing with others.
The role will involve working to tight deadlines in a pressurised environment so good organisational skills and the ability to work under your own initiative are essential.
