Job Description Summary: This role is a two-year fixed term trainee solicitor position providing legal support to the UK and European markets. This role reports into the Senior Legal Counsel for Marketing Legal (UK and EU). The successful candidate with a qualification as a solicitor at the end of the two year fixed contract period.

Hybrid with offices in Richmond, Surrey (assigned office for this role) and in the City of London.

Training will include a broad range of activities and tasks (across the various legal functions) of varying levels of complexity to gain appropriate competency in each of the Practice Skill Standards required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Key responsibilities:
Supporting the Marketing Legal team in its work with all parts of the PayPal business, providing commercial legal advice to Marketing regarding the viability of a range of different consumer campaigns such as refer a friend schemes, influencer campaigns, offers, incentives and competitions;
drafting, amending and advising on commercial agreements (such as merchant agreements and co-marketing agreements);
identifying and mitigating legal risk in various parts of the business. Advising on, implementing and, where appropriate, managing various internal controls;
advising on, reviewing and amending sales and marketing materials;
advising on new PayPal product offerings including the marketing of such product offerings;
providing legal advice and training (where required) to the business on advertising codes and consumer protection legislation;
providing support to Marketing Legal colleagues in the US, APAC and international markets;
working collaboratively with cross functional teams such as Product, Privacy, IP, and Compliance;
dealing with routine enquiries and communications in a professional manner;
assisting, where necessary, on regional legal and regulatory projects; and
maintaining awareness of legal and regulatory developments through reading of legal publications, online resources and attendance at trainings, seminars and conferences.
Job requirements
- Candidates should have a positive, can-do attitude and have the ability to multi- task within a fast paced, busy environment.
- Demonstrate strong intellectual, analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and organisation skills with the ability to evidence resilience, commercial awareness, teamwork and results focused.
- Proven time management abilities adhering to deadlines, managing workload with attention to detail.
- IT literacy.
Experience
Prior paralegal or work experience in a law firm or in-house legal team desirable, interest and/or background in the financial services or tech sector is preferred, however this is not mandatory.
Education and qualifications
Law degree (English or other common law jurisdiction) or non-law degree graduates must have completed the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) or equivalent and ideally have undertaken the Legal Practice Course or be eligible to complete the SQE.
