We are a busy team of lawyers providing a wide range of legal advice and services to our clients.
We are keen to appoint a trainee solicitor, to start September 2023, to join our team. The successful candidate will be supported to develop their skills in a range of areas and will in turn assist us to provide an excellent legal service to the Council and our communities.
This role provides a platform for developing your skills within the field of Law and drive you forward towards becoming a fully qualified Lawyer and will ensure your are trained in a range of areas from litigation to regeneration, child protection to contracts and governance. We are looking for an individual who can provide forward thinking, customer focused and effective legal advice/support (as directed).
A key focus of the role will be to provide advice to Members and officers of the council, including constitutional, procedural and administrative advice, ensuring the Councils objectives are at the heart of the service. Day to day duties will involve drafting appropriate legal documents, notices, forms, memoranda as required which protect the interests, income and reputation of Knowsley Council. You will also undertake advocacy, attend upon Counsel and attend court as directed.
Above all we are looking for an individual who can provide pragmatic and customer-focused advice on current legislation in relation to contracts and commercial, including statutory interpretation, for internal and external contacts as required. Whilst at the same time working towards the Professional Skills Course (PSC) final professional qualification.
The successful candidate will work on their own initiative, be solution focused, pragmatic and escalate matters where appropriate. They will further show tact, diplomacy, empathy and political awareness with resilience, especially in dealing with competing and demanding pressures and potentially emotionally difficult situations and information. Ultimately, you will demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm to making a difference for residents, you will role model our values and will be an ambassador for the Council.
Interviews are planned for Week Commencing 15th May 2023 and there may be some flexibility in start dates for successful candidates up to September 2023. Successful candidates will need to have completed their LPC qualification at the point they start their contract.
