WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

In this role as Trainee Secretariat Assistant, you'll be provided with the training and development opportunities to enable you to become a fully qualified and effective Chartered Governance Professional. As part of that, you'll work alongside senior colleagues within the Subsidiary Governance team and wider Corporate Governance Office supporting a diverse range of subsidiaries and committees in the Santander UK group including regulated and non-regulated entities, joint ventures and dormant companies.
You’ll learn to provide first class board meeting support (including preparation of draft agendas, collation, review and distribution of meeting papers, calendar maintenance, and preparation of skeleton minutes), maintenance of departmental and statutory records, timely filing of statutory information with regulators and the Registrar of Companies, review and execution of Powers of Attorney and delegated authorities, participation in the preparation of annual accounts, and maintenance of departmental procedures.
You’ll also Support the Head of Technical and Subsidiary Governance in the provision of an efficient and first class corporate governance service.

- Supporting Boards, Board Committees and Management Committees and their key stakeholders
- Preparing agendas, collating, reviewing and circulating Board and Committee papers, and taking minutes of meetings
- Contributing to the annual report and financial statements programme
- Maintaining departmental and statutory records as well as providing timely filing of statutory information with regulators and the registrar of companies
- Supporting corporate transactions and participating in project work and initiatives as required
What you’ll bring.
- Knowledge of the CGI qualification and an aspiration to work towards this.
- Display critical thinking around legal and compliance matters.
It would also be nice for you to have.
- Well-developed organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Practical knowledge of governance, the mechanics of formal meetings and the relationship between Board, Board Committees and Management Committees
- Highly developed stakeholder management skills with experience of direct interaction with senior stakeholders and people in positions of authority
- Experience of working in a regulated environment, ideally financial services
What else you need to know.
- The role is currently located in Milton Keynes and will involve supporting physical and virtual meetings both there and in London. You will operate within a hybrid working model that will involve working-from-home as well as working occasionally from our offices in Milton Keynes and/or London.
