Job Profile

Trainee Quantity Surveyor required for our client who are one of the UK's largest and most successful Surface & Highways Companies based in Derby. Despite being a large organisation, the company prides itself on the close knit, family run culture that promotes an excellent working environment.

The Trainee Quantity Surveyor will be working on arrange of surfacing projects such as Highways, Retail, Rail, Aviation, Commercial and Defence. The candidate will have a good commercial awareness and understand the implications of decisions on the financial objectives and value of the company. The Trainee Quantity Surveyor will has the ability to work under pressure and manage high volume workflows, whilst maintaining extremely high levels of accuracy and meeting tight deadlines.

Trainee Quantity Surveyor Position Overview

  • Measuring works produced by contracting operations and subcontractors.
  • Application of Lean principles. Overseeing the project life cycle from inception to completion and ensuring due regards to health, safety and the perception of the company to our clients and staff
  • Working as a Subcontractor on projects
  • Measuring works produced by contracting operations and subcontractors
  • Carrying out monthly valuations of work in progress, including forecasting of final costs and sales
  • Producing timely cost/value reports that monitor the financial progress of contracts
  • Manage and comply with all Health and Safety requirements

Trainee Quantity Surveyor Position Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Excellent IT skills with competency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Previous experience in the construction / highways industry environment
  • Willing to undertake a course towards a recognised Quantity Surveying qualification
  • Full UK driving licence

Trainee Quantity Surveyor Position Remuneration

  • Salary up to £22K
  • Holiday 25 days per year plus bank holiday
  • Pension
  • Performance related bonus
