Job description
Absolute Action is a small company specialising in fibre optic and LED lighting, based in Meopham, Kent. We manufacture and assemble a range of lighting products, components and fittings for bespoke applications and the illumination of fine art and artefacts. Our sister company, Charter Lighting, focuses primarily on the manufacture of high-end picture lights. All our lighting products and components are designed, prototyped, and produced in our workshop in Kent.
We are looking for someone with all-round manual abilities who has a proactive approach, a driven work ethic and is keen to learn new skills. Based in the workshop, you will be involved in all areas of the production process. Basic electrical and/or mechanical engineering skills are an advantage for this role, although with the bespoke nature of the business training for all processes will be given to the right candidate.
Additional skills and qualities;-
- A well-motivated individual with the ability to work to a high standard at a good pace
- A 'hands-on' approach
- A logical mind to help problem solve
- A high attention to detail
- An interest in mechanical and/or electrical engineering
- Someone that wants to learn or expand new skills and develop their career and progress within the company
- A mode of transport and ability to travel is important due to the location
The work is extremely varied - examples of some of the responsibilities are:
(training will be provided on all aspects but a good mechanical base would be an advantage)
- Electrical handling and assembly, including soldering and wiring
- Basic Metal Work
- Production Techniques
- Spray Painting
- CNC Machine Running and Programming
- 3D Printing
- Workshop cleaning/tidying
- Stockroom inventory and maintenance
- Packaging of goods ready for despatch
The service we offer also includes site installation and commissioning work, which can involve a certain amount of travel, visiting other parts of the UK and (occasionally) overseas. This may entail needing to stay away from home for short periods (days) if this is agreeable to the member of staff concerned. We work in museums and galleries, castles and palaces, stately homes and fine private residences.
Whoever works in our Production department will be involved in a range of activities, and their effort and contribution will be seen as vital to the well-being of the company – be this good work with metals and painting, in wiring, assembling, operating a certain amount of machinery, testing, recording, populating pcbs, or going out on site and physically installing and commissioning the lighting systems. There is plenty of scope for creative problem solving and ingenuity.
Any individual working within this environment must be responsible, self-disciplined and well-motivated. Whilst direction and supervision is available when necessary from senior members of staff, both in the workshop and from within the rest of the Company, an ability to work under their own initiative and to contribute to the general resource of ideas and experience will bring particular benefit to the person concerned.
We would ask that anyone that applies for the position provides a covering letter, briefly explaining the skills they have and how they feel it would help them in the position.
