The Testing Lab PLC
The objective of this position is to train an individual to become a qualified Geotechnical Laboratory Technician. This is an apprenticeship which will lead to a nationally recognised qualification which can progress a career within the Geotechnical Industry and is transferable. The duration of the course is 18 months to 2 years depending on the individual. Working in partnership with TTL’s chosen training provider, individuals may need to enhance previous school qualifications i.e., Mathematics, English etc, but this can be done in conjunction with the training provider. During the training period a training bursary equal to min wage will be provided by TTL. The place of work will be predominantly at TTL PLC’s HQ in Adwick le Street, Doncaster 5 days a week from 0800 to 1700 Mon to Friday with occasional/weekly assignments as dictated by the training provider which may be home studies or ‘on the job’.
Position Overview:
Support will be provided throughout the entire placement, from the various departmental heads.
Training will be provided on how to use various different databases/Microsoft Packages to input data, how to book in samples to a computer system, how to use various laboratory equipment and how to prepare various materials for testing.
Essential Job Functions:
- How to perform general laboratory duties and learn the day-to-day running of a laboratory.
- Use of technical equipment to perform laboratory testing and accurately recording of the test dataobtained.
- Undertake a variety of geotechnical testing, under supervision (preparation/weighing/completing the testing/input) to the appropriate standard and the company's documented procedures.
- Maintain equipment and routine checks, within the laboratory.
- Assisting with the routine calibration and maintenance of all test equipment, and learning how tocomplete calibrations.
- Organisational skills, by assisting in delegating the workload within the laboratory.
- Learn about the health and safety within a laboratory.
- Perform daily equipment and environmental checks prior to testing and recognising and reporting any issues.
- Learn how to meet deadlines.
- Assist with the checking/processing of the test results produced.
Qualifications & Skills Required:▪ IT skills (excel, data management software)

Salary: Apprenticeship minimum wage by age with regular pay reviews with progression and opportunities for advancement and continuing CPD
