Who will I work for?
You will work within the HBC cemeteries team. HBC currently has 4 cemeteries to maintain: Runcorn cemetery, Widnes cemetery, Halton cemetery and Peel House cemetery.
What will I do?
You will be trained to assist with all aspects of horticulture and grounds maintenance within the cemeteries, this will include the use of hand held machinery such as mowers strimmer’s and the use of ride on mowers. You will assist with the horticultural maintenance of our Gardens of Remembrance, this will include planting and pruning within the floral beds. You will trained in the skill of laying turf and preparing areas for grass seed.
You will be trained on all aspects of Grave excavation, this will include the use of J.C.B. excavators and the use of dumper trucks and the safe shoring of graves.
What training will I receive?
You will gain a Level 2 NVQ qualification in Horticulture studied over a 2 year period. This will be provided by Myerscough College and will include training on hand held machinery, ride on mowers, planting and pruning. You will partake in cemetery based courses, such as safety in the burial process and the safe use of excavators and dumper trucks (ICCM).
What experience, knowledge and skills do I need?
Experience in outdoor activities and some horticulture experience.
