We are looking to recruit Trainee High Intensity Therapists to join this vibrant team of highly experienced practitioners delivering a NHS Primary Care Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) contract across Surrey for the REPLACEMENT_STRING2024 cohort starting in September 2023. Practitioners will be applying for the one year full-time IAPT Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Intervention (CBT) based at the University of Surrey, Guildford campus. Further information about the course can be found on the University of Surrey PGDip website and upon completion of this course you will transition into a full time qualified High Intensity position in Service.

About the job

Are you an experienced mental health or social care worker with a recognised professional qualification working in a mental health setting? Have you considered training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)?

Our mental health support service provides high intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to our clients and as a trainee high-intensity therapist, you will complete a programme of training to support your learning and development in this field of therapy.

You will work with people from a whole range of cultural backgrounds and ages, and your particular focus will be those with complex anxiety and depression related problems where CBT has shown to be a particularly effective treatment.

Applications are invited from qualified clinical or counselling psychological therapists, Mental Health Nurses, Psychotherapists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners . Applicants without a core profession (such as Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners or Counsellors without UKCP or BACP accreditation) must be able to meet the required KSA process criteria (see the BABCP website for more information).

This is a permanent full time role for 37.5 hours per week working Monday to Friday. The position will be home based but travel within Surrey is likely for in-person client work in the community and team training and meetings.

Essential Skills

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • have a degree in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or another psychological therapy with evidence of on-going professional development
  • be able to evidence your meeting the Knowledge Skills and Attitude (KSA) requirements of BABCP
  • have experience of working in mental health services
  • be able to build good working relationships, with clients, colleagues and other mental health services
  • have good knowledge of and a particular interest in working in CBT
  • be able to demonstrate your understanding of anxiety and depression, how to recognise it and the medication used to treat it
  • have experience of carrying our relevent risk assessments
  • be able to manage your time and caseload, prioritising and managing conflicting demands in order to meet our service levels
  • able to attend and complete the academic course associated with the role (two days per week)
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report and letter writing
  • offer some flexibility in relation to working hours or location from time to time

This role requires a satisfactory enhanced DBS certificate.
