Job description
The candidate will be trained to perform and report upon a range of physiological tests including full pulmonary function (spirometry, gas transfer and lung volumes), oximetry, fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), field exercise tests, capillary blood gas sampling, respiratory muscle testing and a range of challenge tests. They will also be trained to perform calibration and quality control procedures on all laboratory equipment. They will asked to maintain accurate clinical records and to contribute to team and service development. The department will provide you with a detailed training plan and monthly training lectures delivered by the team. You will be allocated dedicated study time and sent on funded ARTP training courses to help aid the completion of your training. The Respiratory and Cardiac Investigations departments work across 4 sites including Peterborough City Hospital, City Care Centre, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Doddington Community Hospital. The department provides a diagnostic service to inpatients, outpatients and a Direct Access service for GPs. The department performs basic and advanced respiratory and cardiac function tests on both paediatric and adult patients for a wide range of specialties. The department offers a wide variety of services including full pulmonary function tests (PFTS), reversibility, FeNO, mannitol, spirometry, skin allergy testing, field walk tests, hypoxic challenge test, capillary blood gases, overnight oximetry, respiratory muscle assessment, exercise induced asthma and ambulatory oxygen assessment. The physiologist led service has been running successfully for 12 years. This service recently won a Trust award for outstanding achievement in living our trust values and the model has been adopted nationally. Training will be given to ensure all testing will be to national standards. Working hours will be 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be expected to work across all sites.
