Ringway Jacobs are looking for an enthusiastic Trainee Engineer to join the ITS team to provide design services for the Essex Highways contract. The ITS Design team are responsible for the design and installation acceptance of new and refurbishment of traffic control solutions including pedestrian crossings, junction control systems, CCTV installations and electronic driver messaging signs. Together with undertaking feasibility studies and checking and approval of third party ITS proposals across the County.
As part of the role Trainee’s will be offered the opportunity to go onto the Civil Engineering Degree course on a day release or similar arrangement basis.

The Role
- Assist in the design and delivery of ITS designs and specification documents in order schemes can be tendered and constructed using our supply chain partners.
- Assist in answering and discussing technical questions and proposals relating to ITS and Traffic Engineering.
- Engage with and resolve issues with clients, operations teams, colleagues, supply chain and external parties.
- Comply with and promote Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems.
- Assist in the management and monitoring of works programmes or services.
- Help support the team in delivering on its targets and Key Performance Indicators.
- Support the Essex Highways team in delivering a Safer, Greener and Healthier place to live and work.
- To work at various locations throughout Essex including working on site in all weathers. This may on occasion require work outside of normal contracted hours depending upon business need.
- Other Ad Hoc duties to fulfil the requirement of the role.
About You
- Due to the nature of the role Full driving licence preferable and to be discussed further at interview.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- 3 A Levels A* to C including Maths and Science or Level 3 Apprenticeship as Civil Engineering Technician or BTEC Level 3 in Construction or Engineering.
