The role of the business analyst in software development is to be the bridge between clients, users and development teams. To succeed in this role you should have a natural analytical way of thinking and be able to explain difficult concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
As part of a cross-functional team, Business Analysts at Geeks take ownership of the requirements of software development projects. That means explaining functionality to other team members, working closely with clients stakeholders to seek clarification, and incorporating change requests into low fidelity wireframes. In addition business analysts will create state diagrams, data maps and process models to enhance the team’s understanding.
As a trainee business analyst at Geeks you are expected to learn how to maintain and update requirement backlogs in our project management tool AMP, and our prototyping tool visual spec. You will learn how to apply business analysis techniques and acquire knowledge of the software development life cycle. This will be achieved by shadowing senior business analysts and accessing online training material.

Over the initial 6 months, your focus will be learning the basic topics of Business Analysis while working in a fully supervised, enjoyable, and dynamic environment. The 6 months training period is followed by 2 years of working allowing the company to benefit from their investment in your skills.

This is a dynamic role with a diverse set of responsibilities, including the following:
- Learning how to create elicit and capture functional specification details in visual spec.
- Learning how to create business process documentation, such as swimlanes, business activity models and activity diagrams.
- Learning how to create system diagrams such as state diagrams and sequence diagrams.
- Updating low fidelity wireframes.
- Communicating and documenting change using AMP.
- Learning the basics of object-oriented languages.
- Cultivating broad knowledge of business terminology, for example: EBITDA, Margin, turnover, market share, overheads, ROI etc.
- Learning the principles of user-centred design.
- Learning the Geeks approach, and where the BA team fits in the agile development process.

- Degree or Professional work experience You should ideally have a Bachelor’s degree or demonstrate equivalent practical work experience in a business-related field.
