An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the team working at the Nottingham Breast Institute at the City Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust as a Breast Care Nurse trainee.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced new team member to help with the expansion and development of the service, working with existing Breast Care Nurse Specialist team and Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons. The successful applicant will work with our experienced and highly skilled team of Breast Care Nurses and Nurse Practitioners where you will be expected to carry your own caseload and work autonomously, following a period of training and achievement of the required clinical competencies.

As a minimum, the successful applicant must have significant post-registration experience within a Breast Care, Oncology or Palliative Care setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will deliver high quality nursing care to patients who have benign and/or malignant primary Breast disease, this will include leading autonomous nurse-led clinics.
The post holder will also lead the provision of high quality specialist nursing care, providing support and advice to patients with Breast Cancer along with their families and carers.
The successful candidate will also be required to lead and co-ordinate the management of their own caseload of patients, including complex cases, from the point of diagnosis to follow-up care.
Provide, plan and organise activities to ensure the highest standards of patient assessment, care, treatment and referral or discharge of patients, including those with complex needs.
Provide written and verbal information to patients and their carers on all aspects of Breast care.
Provide psychological and emotional support to patients with Breast cancer.

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the NMC Register
- First level degree or equivalent knowledge.
- Advanced Communication Skills Training Course or willingness to undertake.
Desirable criteria
- Breast related course / accredited Breast care qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-registration experience within a Breast Care, Oncology or palliative care setting.
- Leadership and management experience
- Demonstrable evidence of specialist knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Experience of audit/research.
- Experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- Experience of working with Breast patients who have very complex needs.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

NUH will scan your ID and right to work documentation in to the Trust ID system at your face to face ID appointment. The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.
Consent:
- Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
- Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
