Job description
Overview:
Join the blue team!
GB Railfreight is ambitious, driven and growing where many are not! Increasing variety and work content, crossing boundaries and challenging the status quo – from freight to MPV work and testing and commissioning of new trains. And everything in between.
This is where you come in.
We are looking for forward looking drivers with ambition based in our Wellingborough depot!
We offer you an environment that never stands still and pursues growth with its never-ending possibilities, whether for training, new traction and route knowledge, progression or just the chance to earn a good living doing something you enjoy.
Specifically, our Wellingborough based train drivers have the chance to drive class 66 diesel locomotives and take charge of our freight services in the area, which mainly include aggregates and stone traffic, with network rail SCO possession thrown in for good measure. You would also be able to build your route card to cover various parts of the country, with the core routes taking you across the Midland Mainline to London, north to Toton and Tunstead Quarry in the picturesque Peak District.
No week will be the same and you will be able to work a variety of shifts over an average 34.5-hour, 4 day week (annualised hours contract). Freight never sleeps and a lot of the work is done on nights so you will get to enjoy countless of peaceful sunrises in the driving cab. Bonus? You’ll get to avoid the dreaded rush hour!
So, if you are a passenger driver who always wanted to try freight, here’s your opportunity. If you are a freight driver already, well, why not join the winning team and lead in the railfreight revolution. Help us take lorries off the road, champion greener innovative solutions and keep our shops stocked up
Qualifications:
Day to day you will be supported by experienced managers who often go above and beyond in welcoming and supporting colleagues. It is this approach that has recently won GB Railfreight the ‘Great Place to Work’ award at the 2020 National Rail Awards. And if that’s not enough, we also offer, among others, the following generous suite of benefits;
