Traffic Management Operative
Wiltshire Highways are currently looking for Traffic Management Operatives to work on our Highways Maintenance contract from our Melksham, Chippenham and Salisbury depots in Wiltshire.
This is a permanent role, where you work as part of the Depot Operations Team undertaking various Highways Traffic management duties including, Stop & Go, 2 way lights, Multiphase, Lane closures, road closures, Gateman duties. From time to time you may also be expected to take part in the following maintenance duties. Pothole repairs, excavation works, laying and levelling of kerbs, slabs and bitumen macadam, drainage and gully installations, vegetation management and many other Highways activities.
We will provide top of the range training to ensure you fulfil your potential, however in order to succeed in this role you will already have either experience as a Highways Operative and a LGV licence.
Full winter maintenance training will be provided (including training and support to obtain the correct licence) to build upon your prior experience as a Highways Operative.

You’ll be responsible for:
- Ensure all Highways Maintenance activity is carried out safely, correct traffic management methods are used and Company benchmark standards applied.
- Operate all plant, tools and equipment necessary to complete work ensuring a high standard of equipment care (ie. ensure pre user checks completed/defects escalated and recorded)
- Install traffic management under instruction in accordance with method statements
- Participate in Winter & Emergency Service duties as required
- Ensure accurate records are maintained (drivers’ hours, timesheets, job stock and materials, job feedback notes, Permits etc). HGV Drivers are expected to adhere to GB Domestic Drivers Hours
- Keeping vehicles clean, tidy and correctly loaded; waste materials to be correctly transported and managed in the Depot.
- Supporting weather related or emergency events such as e.g. flooding prevention, sandbag/salt wick filling and deployment, clearing debris from the highway, emergency road closures and diversions
- Assisting in all Highway Maintenance work as instructed and dependant on experience and qualifications.
You'll have:
- HGV Licence Class 2 and DCPC qualification
- 12D T1-T2 – M1-M5
- 12AB – 12A
- CSCS Card (training can be provided)
- Willing to work in all weather conditions
- Prepared to work evenings/nights and weekends on occasion
- UK driving licence
