What role will you play in our team


You will be part of our Crude Trading Analytics team, currently based in Leatherhead, Surrey (but with a view to relocate to a more central London location in early 2023), providing analysis of oil markets, fundamentals and trading strategies to the Trading Teams and Management to enable and enhance profit capture from trading activities. You will act as a key trading resource, driving opportunity identification / capture via; understanding supply/demand balances and trade flows, developing arbitrage analysis, tracking commodity movements and monitoring market events. This involves working collaboratively with trading analysts across both the globe and the barrel.


You will also be assigned to a specific regional crude trading desk, working closely with their traders to provide ad hoc analysis to enable optimal decision making.


What you will do


  • Produce analytical led market views to support trading decisions
  • Research / highlight key market events impacting sentiment
  • Develop trade strategies by producing and connecting market fundamentals / insights, utilizing advanced analytics in conjunction with supply and demand models
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with wider analytical / trading community, both domestically and globally, in order to drive value creation
  • Act as power-user of strategic tools that support trading activities: Data systems, bespoke analytical tools, Eikon.
  • Contribute to special projects, strategy studies and support of annual plan development
  • Produce ad-hoc analysis as requested by Traders / Trading Management


About you


  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Economics, Finance, Business (or equivalent)
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent numerical / analytical skills and inquisitive mind for trading
  • Be able to showcase initiative, tenacity and drive for continuous improvement
  • Have a sound knowledge of the crude trading market as well as an understanding of oil derivatives, forecast methodologies and arb calculations
  • Have experience of amalgamating various data sources to produce supply and demand models for individual markets or regions
  • Be able to exhibit a clear understanding of how fundamentals and flows act as a basis for a market view
  • Have solid IT skills with ability to model in Excel, ideally experience of main programming languages such as Python (or equivalent)
  • Have a level of familiarity with ship tracking tools
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent communications skills and enjoyment of team work within both the analytical and trading community


Preferred Qualifications/ Experience


  • The ability to model optionality value or produce financial analyses
  • Expert proficiency in programming skills such as Python, R, SQL, Tableau and SAP programs
  • Refinery or products trading experience
  • In depth knowledge of derivatives
