Casual engagements
Based in Purfleet, Essex
As the home of The Royal Ballet, The Royal Opera and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, we want many more people to enjoy and engage in exceptional ballet and opera. We are now looking for casual Tour Guides to join our inclusive, friendly and professional team, delivering tours of our production workshop and costume centre.
Tour Guides play a key role in ensuring all visitors, patrons and guests are welcomed warmly into a safe, engaging and theatrical environment by delivering an inspiring, informative and memorable tour whilst also promoting the ROH brand, its art forms, programme and activities, its charitable purpose and commercial opportunities.
This role will primarily be based at the Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop and Costume Centre in Purfleet, Essex. Tours at this site generally take place on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of each month, although this may vary seasonally. Tours at Covent Garden, London can take place 7 days a week and there may be occasions when you are asked to deliver tours, attend meetings or trainings at the Covent Garden site.
We would love to hear from you if you can demonstrate the following:
- Experience as a Tour Guide (relevant transferable skills will be considered)
- A knowledge of and an interest in theatre crafts, particularly opera and ballet
- Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills and impeccable presentation
- Fluency in English
- First-class customer service skills and the confidence to manage a group of people effectively and professionally, while remaining calm, safe, patient and dynamic.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the diplomacy required to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues at all levels within an organisation.
Availability:
As with all our Tour Guides, this is a Casual engagement.
Currently, Thurrock tours are held once a month on the third Tuesday of every month. Applicants must be able to provide this availability as a minimum requirement.
There is the opportunity within this role to provide your availability to work. Schedules will be based on demand and there are no guaranteed number of hours across the year.
Candidates must be available to attend training Tuesday 13 June andTuesday 20 June.
