Job description

Thermal Engineering Graduate

Our Thermal Engineering Graduate scheme helps graduates develop a career that makes a positive difference in the world. How so? Because JCB is a global leader and, right now, we’re driving clean energy innovation with our hydrogen-powered machines. Join us and, over 18 months, our experts will teach you the skills you need to build a brighter future for yourself and the world we live in.

What does the Thermal Engineering Graduate Scheme involve day-to-day?

You’ll learn all about learning about the engineering specialism concerning heat and energy transfer used to develop the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) systems in our vehicles.

Contributing to live projects, you’ll be able to see the impact you can have as you put your learning into practice with the best kit in the industry. Supporting you every step of the way, our expert mentors will ensure you get the most out of every learning experience. There’s also the opportunity to give something back by getting involved with community activities designed to encourage interest in STEM subjects.

You’ll rotate through various roles within the Thermal Engineering function to give you a full understanding of everything goes on here and inspire your career choices. That might include:

  • Designing/specifying associated HVAC systems
  • Integrating HVAC systems into machines
  • Thermal modelling and simulation with Amesim, Simulink, Matlab and Excel
  • CFD simulation pre- and post- processing
  • Researching emerging hybridisation and electrification technology

What do I get out of the JCB Graduate Scheme

Our programme will turn you into a professional capable of influencing the direction of change at a global company. You’ll become an expert in a highly specialist area of engineering with a portfolio of transferrable skills that will set you up for a lifetime of career development. You’ll also enjoy a range of benefits including:

  • Access to world-class training facilities
  • A competitive salary
  • 33 days’ holiday, increasing with service
  • Access to pension schemes
  • A comprehensive training programme with residential outdoor development

How do I qualify?

You’ll have, or be on in the final year of, a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree graded 2:1 or higher in a relevant subject. You’ll also need to be able to get to our site in Staffordshire. Most of all, we’re looking for people with a proactive, can-do attitude who will seize this opportunity with both hands. Those are the people who build careers to be proud of at JCB.
