Our Graduate programme provides an exciting, unique and accelerated foundation to your career in Guy Carpenter. The programme is both challenging and rewarding in equal measure. You will learn through a combination of structured learning sessions, and on the job training. You will gain experience and insight into aspects of the Actuarial, Catastrophe Modelling, and Strategic Advisory business within Guy Carpenter. During the 2 year programme you will also work towards achieving a professional insurance or actuarial qualification, for example CII, enabling you to gain a broad insight into the industry. You will receive funding and support from the organisation to enable you to achieve this.

This programme will run for up to 2 years. You will be aligned to a specific team (either in the Latin America and Caribbean team or in our Model Solutions and Advisory group). During the course of the programme, you will be provided with opportunities to gain experience in other teams through agreed rotations or involvement in wider team projects/training.

What will you do?

Develop a thorough understanding of insurance and reinsurance markets.

  • Build and develop strong client and insurance/reinsurance market contacts.
  • Support client case work through
    • data validation, manipulation, analysis and presentation to understand the risk and explain trends, anomalies and issues
    • analysis of risk and reward for clients through structuring, pricing and optimising of reinsurance programmes
    • preparation of proposals and presentations alongside senior colleagues
  • Develop knowledge of actuarial, analytical and natural catastrophe systems & processes
  • Assist in actuarial and catastrophe modelling product design and development
  • Assist in building models and tools for understanding catastrophe risk
  • Researching and developing mad-made and natural peril risk insights to support our advisory services to clients
  • Help collate and disseminate data using to aid our benchmarking and peer analysis
  • Maintain awareness of, and comply on an ongoing basis, with the requirements of relevant professional/legal/regulatory/risk management frameworks

What are we looking for?

  • Strong educational background, with a preference for those that have studied one or more of the following subjects during your school and/or university studies: Mathematics, Statistics, Civil Engineering, Geography and all natural science subjects (atmospheric science, hydrology, earth science etc).
  • 2.1 university degree or higher.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator with an ability to build relationships with stakeholders internally and externally.
  • A strong desire to understand and work with complex data.
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft products (Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Software development skills desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience surrounding programming languages and data processing tools such as R, SQL, Python, GIS and Data Visualisation tools would be advantageous.
  • Experience within Catastrophe Risk and Reinsurance/insurance would be advantageous but are not essential.
  • A driven self-starter with Intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to work under pressure.
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skill will be a plus.
