At Bewdley Boarding Kennels and Cattery we pride ourselves in our care for the animals and the relationship that we have with all of our lovely customers. I have an amazing team of permanent staff and I'm looking for 1-2 people aged 18 or over to help them over the very busy summer period.
This job is for 1-2 days per week plus possible overtime and is temporary up till October.
This is not just petting animals all day, this is caring for the business as a whole.
We have 38 dog kennels and 16 cat pens separated over 6 blocks, so with families of pets we possibly care for up to 99 animals per day. So time management, communication and teamwork is a must.
This role will suit someone that is very fit and active as you will be on your feet for all of the shift, You will need to be confident with small and big breed dogs ranging from the tiny feistiest Chihuahua to the bounciest Cane Corso, and also with all breeds of cats that can be demanding, scared and some quite anxious.
No experience in this field of work is necessary but confidence with both dogs and cats is essential.
We have a lot of lockdown animals that are nervous and suffer from separation/social anxiety so time, patience, consideration and a lot of thought is needed when allocating and looking after the dogs and cats.
Day-to-day duties will include:
- Cleaning kennels throughout the day eg changing water, Squeegeeing out individual kennels.
- Picking up poo from inside kennels and in the exercise paddocks.
- Cleaning cat pens throughout the day eg emptying litter trays, topping up water.
- Preparing food for up to 99 animals.
- Administering medication if required.
- Exercising dogs in all weathers to a time schedule.
- Delivering a high standard of animal welfare.
- Providing animal interaction and stimulation as much as the daily duties allow.
- Maintaining a positive and safe environment for animals.
- Welcoming customers, checking pets in/out.
- Basic administration work including using our boarding software, answering phone calls, booking dates in and filing paperwork.
- General house keeping eg washing/drying up food bowls, washing pet bedding, sweeping floors, mopping, cleaning windows, etc and gardening work eg weeding, mowing, strimming.

Things to consider
- Working outside in all weathers/temperatures.
- Shifts start at 8am (7.45am when extremely busy) and finish at either 4pm or 6pm with a 30 minute (unpaid) break.
- Shifts will include some weekends, bank holidays and must be available for the school holidays as these are the busiest times and when we will need you the most.
- Confident with the handling of all breeds of dogs and cats, big and small.
- Fit and active as the job is a physical role and you are on your feet all of the day (nonstop).
- Own transport is essential as we are not on a public transport route.
- You will be responsible for cleaning kennels, pens and all buildings on-site (kitchen, reception, etc) and also feeding, medicating and grooming.
- Working fast and efficiently yet maintaining a high-quality cleaning standard with good attention to the smallest detail, and reliability for 8am start in all weathers.
- Please be aware that the location is rural and no public transport is nearby.

The wage is National Minimum Wage dependant on your age.
Candidates will be required to work in all aspects of the business.
Shifts will vary to suit business needs and you need to be available Mon-Sun.
