Position Summary
This position is in the Centralized Design Team, which designs underground electrical infrastructure for multi-family home, townhome, and apartment developments. The Centralized Design Team works behind the scenes to support the Residential Development Team which is the customer facing side of development design. This role in the Centralized Design Team is not a customer-facing role and does a minimal amount of field work.
The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist III position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Responsibilities
  • Design and review underground electrical utility infrastructure
  • Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies.
  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) AND three (3) years minimum of relevant industry experience OR
  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) AND five (5) years minimum of experience OR
  • In lieu of above degrees, high school diploma/GED AND nine (9) years minimum of equivalent experience
Specific Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Technology
  • Working knowledge of Maximo and BOUD
  • Ability to work closely with teammates and be team-oriented
  • Strong knowledge in distribution design standards and electrical utility construction practices
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management.
Working Conditions
  • M - F, flexible schedule available after training and based on business needs
  • Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
  • Efficiently work with minimal supervision in a Hybrid work model
