About The Job


We are looking for a Technician to join us at West Sussex County Council, this role will be based at Chichester.

Salary: £ 22,369 to £24,496 per annum.
Working Pattern: 37 hours per week
Contract: 2X permanent positions.
Location: Chichester, hybrid working options available.
Interview Date: 23rd and 24th May 2023.

You must be able to travel throughout the County including to locations that are not always accessible by public transport.

Are you looking for a career in planning, transport planning, civil engineering, or planning policy? We are looking for a Technician to join our Planning Services team, delivering a customer-focused service.

As a Technician your work will be varied including;

  • Responding to Local Land Charge searches,
  • Highway boundary enquiries,
  • Assess highway matters relating to small planning applications,
  • Calculate Section 106 requirements for applications,
  • Liaise with services regarding their requirements,
  • Provide flexible technical service to customers
  • Creating graphs, electronic presentations, and reports
  • Monitor residential and commercial developments.

You will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and other specialist IT software to support the delivery of projects. You will be expected to undertake site visits to gather information, advise with research, and handle confidential information.

  • Ability to work in a customer focused way, gaining trust of customers and providing a high-quality service with a high level of attention to detail.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • 5 GCSEs with A-C passes including Maths and English, or equivalent qualification or demonstrable equivalent comparable experience.
  • Relevant organisational knowledge of systems, procedures and policies in an appropriate specialism.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, using specialist IT systems such as GIS or CAD.
  • Demonstrable experience of working within office systems/practices.
  • Experience of dealing with the general public.
